Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in a Lotus Kit?
A Lotus Kit includes:
- 1 Ring in your size and color
- 3 Switch Covers (rocker or toggle)
- 1 Ring Charger
- USBc cord and adapter
Where are Lotus Kits shipped to?
The Ring and Switch Covers will only be shipped within the US and Canada (for now).
Where can I use my Lotus Kit?
It's portable and can be used in your living space, whether owned or rented. A great solution for dorms, hotels, and short-term rentals.
Is the Ring waterproof?
Yes (IPx8 rated). Never needs to be removed for washing, showering, or bathroom use.
What will my Lotus Kit control?
You can use your Lotus Ring and Switch Covers together to control anything that an existing wall switch controls. Lights and ceiling fans are the most common applications.
And since the Lotus Ring uses infrared (IR), it can also be used to turn your television on and off.
Does the Lotus Kit need batteries?
The Lotus Ring and Switch Covers have rechargeable batteries. 1 hour of charge lasts up to 90 days.
Does the Lotus Ring need any sort of connection?
Nope! The ring works via infrared, just like your TV remote. No rewiring, pairing, or internet connection needed.
How far away does the Lotus Ring work from?
As long as there are no physical obstacles in the way, the Lotus Ring will activate a Lotus Switch Cover from up to 30 feet away (think of a very long hallway!)
How do I use the Lotus Ring with my TV?
If your Lotus Ring is programmed to work with a compatible TV (Samsung, Sony, LG, Hisense/TCL), you will be able to turn your TV on and off by double-clicking the button on your Lotus Ring.
How accurately do I need to aim the Lotus Ring?
We compare the IR beam from the Lotus Ring to light from a flash light. As long as you are pointing in the direction and approximate location of the Switch Cover, you will activate it when clicking your ring without activating any other Switch Covers throughout the room.
Can I share my Lotus Ring with family and friends?
All Rings work with all Switch Covers, so your family and friends can use theirs in your Lotus space, and vice versa. It's like a telephone - the more people that have it, the more beneficial your own device gets!
Do the Lotus Switch Covers work on all switch types?
There are different Switch Covers for rocker and toggle switches.
How do I remove a Switch Cover from a wall switch?
Simply pull it away from the wall switch until the magnets release. You will feel some resistance due to the strength of the magnets, which is normal and expected.
Can I use my Switch Covers on a multi-gang wall switch?
Yes, your Switch Cover will work on a multi-gang panel. However, it will only control one of the switches- whichever one you place the Switch Cover over top of. Note, you will not be able to place 2 Switch Covers side-by-side on the same multi-gang panel.
What is the Lotus Kit Return Policy?
If you would like to return your Lotus Kit, please email us at helpdesk@getlotus.com. We will facilitate the return shipment and initiate a full refund.
What's inside the Lotus Kit
The Ring is ready to wear. Put it on your preferred index/ pointer finger - button closest to the thumb and infrared(IR) strip facing upwards.
The Switch Covers can be attached to any existing wall switches in your living space. We recommend the switches you use most often, but can be moved around your space.
The Charging Platform and USB-C Cable are provided. Both the Lotus Ring and Switch Covers should be charged before first use.
How to Charge the Lotus Kit
For the Ring
- Using the provided charging cable, connect your Ring Charging Platform to the wall plug and plug it into a wall socket.
- Place the Ring onto the raised post of the Charging Platform, aligning the metal charging contacts inside the Ring with those on the post. Magnets will guide the Ring into the correct position for charging and you’ll feel it snap into place.
- While charging, the red light (visible inside the black band) will blink every few seconds. Your ring is fully charged when the red light stays steady.
For the Switch Cover
When you first open your Lotus kit, the switch covers may flash different color lights when pressed. This means “low on power” (low power, so restarting) and needs to be recharged.
Even if this does not occur, we strongly recommend that you charge your Ring and the Switch covers once for an hour before using it the first time.
- Using the provided charging cable, connect your Switch Cover to the wall plug and plug it into a wall socket.
- You’ll see a green light inside the Switch Cover – this simply means that the Switch Cover is successfully connected to power.
- While charging, a small yellow light will blink every few seconds. When the blinking is replaced by the yellow light staying steady, the Switch Cover is done charging.
How to use the Lotus Kit
Put on the Ring
The button is located roughly a finger-width from the black IR band and identified via creases in the rings outer casing. The button should be on the side of your index finger that is closest to your thumb when the IR band is aligned with your knuckle. There is a thin raised line marking the bottom portion of the button, farthest from the IR band.
We will also be providing a silicone bumper that you may stick to the button to make it easier to identify.
Snap on the Switch Cover
The magnets on the back of the Lotus Switch Cover will align with the screws on the existing wall switch plate. Hold the Switch Cover in front of the switch plate and allow it to snap in place.
Press the manual button on the front of the Switch Cover. If it activates the switch that means it is properly aligned. When pressing manually, the yellow LED light within the Switch Cover will flash briefly, followed by the blue LED light when the switch is activated.
- You can also “manually” use the switch by pressing it near the “scoop”
- You can rotate the switch “upside down” and it’ll still work both “manually” and via the ring
Point-and-click
Ensure that you have line of sight with the switch and there are no physical obstacles in front of you. We suggest making a “thumbs up” gesture in the direction of the wall switch, with the black IR band on the Lotus Ring directly facing it.
Gently click the button with your thumb (alternatively, a finger from the opposing hand or assistive device). Use the same gesture of click-and-release- that you would with your television remote. Do not use a swiping motion on the button or hold it down with extra force.
When you click the button on the Ring, the red LED light in the IR band will flash. And once the Switch Cover is activated, the blue LED light within the Switch Cover will flash.
How to Measure Your Finger for a Lotus Ring
Materials Needed
- Piece of string, cord, floss, or strip of paper
- Ruler (with millimeter measurements)
- Pen or marker
Measurement Instructions
- Wrap the string around your index finger (or pointer finger) at the base where you'd wear the ring. Wrap it until the ends just overlap.
- Adjust the fit so it sits comfortably at the base of your finger—not too tight or too loose. Note: The ring doesn't need to touch your skin constantly since it's not tracking biometrics, so a slightly loose fit is fine.
- Mark the overlap point with your pen where the string meets itself.
- Lay the string flat against the ruler and measure the distance between the end and your mark in millimeters.
Size Chart
- 56 mm or smaller → Order Size 8 (small)
- 57-61 mm → Order Size 10 (medium)
- 62-67 mm → Order Size 12 (large)
- 68-72 mm → Order Size 14 (x-large)
Sizing Tips
- If you're between sizes, choose the larger size since a slightly loose fit works well for this ring.
- Ring size adjusters included: Each kit comes with foam adhesive pads that you can stick inside the ring to make it smaller for a perfect fit. Just avoid placing them over the charging ports.
Control Your Television
Switch Covers are NOT required to turn your TV on and off with the Lotus Ring.
Follow the same steps you use to activate a wall switch with the Lotus Ring. Just make sure the Ring’s IR band is pointed toward your TV—just like aiming the top end of a remote.
Double click the button on your Lotus Ring to turn the TV on and off.
